Taveuni

Greetings!

You've finally acknowledged the e-mails, printed the itinerary, and arranged the travel essentials in neat rows next to the suitcase. An assortment of paperback novels...check. Passport...check. Local map...check. Sunscreen....check. Traveler's checks...got 'em.

What doesn't seem to compute is how 30 hours of jet travel consumes 48 hours of your time. But when the west bound 767 finally descends on your destination, you discover exactly what it means to "race the sun'.

Of the 322 islands comprising the Fiji Group, only 106 are inhabited. This inverted U-shaped archipelago, scattered over nearly 800,000 square miles, has been called home by a rich mixture of vibrant, exuberant Melanesians, East Indians, Polynesians, Micronesians, Chinese, and Europeans, each sharing their own unique cultures and cuisine. The name Figi is a Tongan derivative of the indigenous name "Viti" and we've arrived in the busting city of Nadi, on the island of Viti Levu. Nadi is known as the hub of international flight between Australia and the US mainland. Our final destination still lies an hour and a half to the northeast...Taveuni.

Referred to as the "Garden Isle", Taveuni is rugged, verdant, and pristine....the archetypical tropical island. It's sparse population, descendants of noble Polynesian warriors, live in traditional Fijian villages, offering the weary adventurer a welcome respite from the ravages of 21st century time travel.

Land based adventurers will discover such unspoiled destinations as the cascades of Tavoro Falls and Lake Taimaucia, situated atop a dormant volcano over a half mile above sea level, as well as the archeological site of the ancient fortified Fijian village of Vunivasa.

Veteran watersport enthusiasts will happily bypass all of the Garden Isle's geographical sites, with the intent of reaching just one destination...Lavena Village. This picturesque enclave is the gateway to the most breathtaking diving and snorkeling in the islands. Zealots call it world class.

As you meander along a tropical pathway adjacent to the village gardens, you'll arrive at beach so pristine, so idyllic, so awe inspiring, you're left with only one thought.....it's dive time!

Below the surface, immersed in a bounty of marinelife, iridescent fish dart about, gigantic soft coral formations sway to the gentle currents, and of course, seashells abound. Indigenous to these waters is the chambered nautilus or Nautilus pompilius, a work of nature so perfect it has been described in the mathematical polar equation r = a X e cot(b). Its coiled geometry emanates from a center point in logarithmic spirals, evoking order and proportion, and for its simplistic beauty and inspiration, we offer our February design... taveuni.

This marine inspired design features a borrosilicate glass focal element sculpted in the likeness of a chambered nautilus shell in shades of amber, violet, and stark white. Note the ocher tentacles radiating randomly from the shell, adding subtle movement to the creation.

This necklace has been asymmetrically designed, consisting of a collection of organic components including raw amethyst, iridescent violet freshwater pearl, smokey topaz , tiger eye, honey jade, and Swarovski crystal. Our borro glass accent beads draw their color from the nautical focal element, as glossy lavender and cerulean glass cylinders are punctuated by autumn jasper and tiger eye, terminating at a fashionable sterling silver toggle clasp.

This one of a kind accessoreez creation represents a whimsical depiction of a unique marinelife interpretation. Featuring a stylistic convergence of organic elements, diverse geometric shapes and tropical tones, this piece exemplifies our distinctive commitment to fashionable design and unparalleled craftsmanship. We proudly present.....tavenui.

In closing, we want to express our appreciation for your continued interest and support and look forward to reaquainting ourselves with everyone throughout our future travels.
